Two things are happening at once:
First, Bill authors things which most folks would feel shame about. Sometimes it is a Tweet, a blog post or a really bad essay on line (described at this link.) http://leestranahan.com/bill-schmalfeldt-too-disgusting-for-daily-kos/
Most people could walk away from literary missteps.
The second factor is that Bill actively antagonizes people on a personal level. So, no. He will never really be able to escape the stuff he has already written. The third factor is that he repeats these two things again and again. In his case, hole digging is what he does.
